DANISH MODERN is a celebration of the most beautiful and significant era in furniture history. It’s an ode to the immaculate Danish craftsmanship and design heritage.

Our purpose is to relaunch furniture from the same high standard as the iconic originals. We focus on quality over costs and therefore do not outsource abroad.

Danish Modern, also known as Scandinavian Modern, is a design movement that emerged in the mid-20th century, particularly during the 1940s to 1960s. It originated in Denmark but quickly gained international recognition for its innovative and minimalist approach to furniture and interior design. Danish Modern played a significant role in shaping the broader mid-century modern design movement.

The key characteristics of Danish Modern design became

Functionality

Danish Modern designers emphasized functionality and practicality. Furniture and objects were designed to serve a purpose efficiently without unnecessary ornamentation.

Minimalism

The movement embraced a minimalist aesthetic, focusing on clean lines, simple forms, and uncluttered designs. This approach aimed to achieve beauty through understated elegance.

Natural Materials

Danish Modern design often incorporated natural materials like wood, leather, and textiles. Teak and rosewood were especially favored for their warm tones and durability. The more experimental use of scandinavian woods began during 2. world war as a natural consequence due to lack of oversea materials.

Craftsmanship

Danish Modern designers held a strong appreciation for craftsmanship and quality. Each piece was meticulously crafted, showcasing the skill and dedication of the artisans.

Innovative Techniques

The movement introduced innovative production techniques and materials. Designers experimented with molded plywood, bentwood, and other innovative methods to create unique shapes and forms.

Human-Centric Design

Danish Modern design was human-centric, aiming to enhance the user's experience and comfort. Ergonomics and practicality were at the forefront of design considerations.

Timeless Appeal

The designs created during the Danish Modern movement have a timeless quality that remains relevant and appealing even decades later.

In terms of its role in mid-century design in general, Danish Modern significantly influenced the broader international mid-century modern movement. Its emphasis on functionalism, minimalism, and quality craftsmanship resonated with designers and consumers worldwide.

DANISH MODERN is a design company named after the movement and founded upon its values.

We want to cherish the cabinetmaker's craftsmanship and celebrate the designer's legacy. If we place all future production abroad, who is left to pass on the craftmanship from one generation to the next?
